A scaled down model of one of the black marker lines found at the bottom of a public swimming pool provides a lifting off point, both conceptually and physically, for Tumble Turn.
Public swimming pools are communal watering holes within local communities, bodies of water that permeate our collective memory.
The processes of memory are fluid, overlapping and malleable. Tumble turns in lap swimming are reminiscint of waves breaking on the shoreline and also of the breath. Breath as it swells in the diaphragm and abdomen and then as it subsides again.
Familiar rhythms echoed in memory.
