Artist Statement 2015

Public swimming pools are communal watering holes within local communities, bodies of water that permeate our collective memory.

A scaled down model of a single lap lane has been created whereby the black line normally found at the bottom of the pool lane has been released. It is free to float to the surface.

This work, like the familiar ornamental “snow-dome”, has been designed with play in mind. The viewer is encouraged to physically connect with the work in order to experience the black line moving  freely around the space in which it is enclosed.
