the edges of meaning
2019
in collaboration with Virginia Hilyard
Single channel video
What is being filmed is the body of a house in decay. Moving through the rooms, filming with a 360 camera, the fabric of the domestic space peels and folds, not only in the disintegrating of the walls, ceilings and floors through neglect and abandonment. Shot on Kotlin Island, Russia, the work of filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky was a catalyst in exploring the island locations through approaches of expanded cinema. As a by-product of the 360 video spheres, the centre of the image is unstable and unfixed, it folds and reappears. Meaning transforms as the edges merge.
